🧇 Pøffel
🧇 Pøffel

Stop motion animation made on green screen. I gradually spilled waffle batter on a glass plate (the grandma plate was added in postproduction), which I later replaced by several versions of a waffle of varying degrees of crispiness. The rest I moved by hand. Oh and I ate them all, I don't like to waste in my household.

If the content makes no sense to you, here's some context - behold the (in)famous Norwegian pølse i vaffel (sometimes lovingly abbreviated as pøffel), which directly translates to hot dog in a waffle. Because that is exactly what it is.

This local delicacy from the town of Moss, Norway, is surrounded by many urban legends about the dish’s origin.

Some sources say that this is an invention of chef extraordinaire Eyvind Hellstrøm, who is also arguably the most famous Moss survivor (i.e. he was born there). I’ve also heard a version that it was in fact his uncle who came up with the idea during a local football match in Moss when he ran out of traditionally used hot dog buns and wraps/flatbread.

Either way, this is yet another example of how a spark of creative thinking can turn into a local phenomenon. Fyi, pøffel is also to be found in Oslo’s hipster waffle joints and is usually purchased on a dare.

P.S.: It doesn’t taste as bad as it looks.
